What were you doing last night?

Were you listening to the radio?

Did you watch a bit of telly?

Or were you at the Camden Roundhouse like me? Yes, I went to see Robbie Williams last night!!!!!!!

It was a fantastic night and I am so glad that I was lucky enough to get tickets...this was mainly due to my friend (who has yet to appear on this blog, so will call her Ms Morrissey) who has an amazing knack of getting tickets for gigs that sell out in a matter of minutes!

I don't watch the X-Factor - but have heard that Robbie wasn't at his best ... well, he was brilliant last night and I am glad that I have got to see such a showman in a small venue like the Roundhouse!

I'll be back soon to tell you all about my lovely weekend at my parents!

Weekend antics in rainy London town

I love the weekends!!

Friday, 5pm and I managed to escape work and head home for a lovely weekend!

On Saturday morning we headed into town to visit the J.W Waterhouse exhibition at the Royal Academy. I love Waterhouse. Especially "The Lady Of Shallot" - so was keen to see this exhibition. I wasn't disappointed! There were so many beautiful paintings that I hadn't seen before. I think that I would have like to have been one of Waterhouse's mythical heroine's!

Next we headed up to John Lewis as I needed to visit the haberdashery department! While there I got completed distracted by the Kim Hargreaves book "Thrown Together". A wondrous collection of 16 vintagey pieces ... I'm going to have a go at knitting this cardigan! What do you reckon? Overly ambitious? Oh well ... I need to move on from baby clothes!

We finished off the day by meeting friends for a trip to The Proms! Fantastic! Proms 22 was the MGM Musical Prom and featured vocals by Curtis Stiger and Seth MacFarlane! Yes ... Seth Macfarlane from Family Guy! He even did a Stewie impression in the finale! I love musicals (and am sat here watching "High Society" while typing away!) - to this was a perfect evening! You can listen to last night's concert on the iplayer ... I would definitely recommend it! Follow this link for MGM musical delights!

The weekend did not stop there! This morning we headed off to visit a friend of Mr Plum's ... who's cat has just given birth to eight of these ...

awwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!

In four (or so) weeks ... we will be coming home with these two cuties!!!!

We have names the ginger kitty "Marmalade" (original, I know) and the tabby "Crumpet" ... this may be subject to change! I wanted to call the tabby "Sparkle" - but Mr Plum insisted on a breakfast theme!!

Here's a gratuitous cat shot to finish off this post! We are about to tuck into Blackberry Crumble (with berries picked from our garden, of course!)

I hope that you have all had lovely weekends!

The Proms!

Last night I went to Prom 73 at the Royal Albert Hall.  The programme included Vaughan Williams "Sinfonia antartica" (Symphony No 7), Xenakis "Pleiades" (first performance at the Proms - and last, hopefully!) and finally, Holst "The Planets".

The Vaughan Williams piece was beautiful and inspired by Scott's doomed expedition to the the South Pole.  It was easy to get lost in the music ..........

The second piece of music by Xenakis just wasn't my "thing" at all ... very modern, loud and tuneless ... not really what I had gone to the Albert Hall to listen to ... a lot of people walked out in the middle of it - one man in the audience actually shouted "noooooooo!" in the middle of it!  It sounded like crashing bin lids!!!

The final piece on the programme was Holt's "The Planets" - this was amazing! I have never sat and listened to the whole movement in one go ... always bits here and bits there.  I was captivated throughout the whole performance ... and the Holst Singers at the end was particularly moving ....

The People's Prom – Folk Day July 2008

I belong to a local choir, and towards the end of the last term our social secretary bought in a pile of leaflets advertising the first ever BBC Folk Proms. The Folk Proms was held in Kensington Gardens and had various bands, morris dancing, maypoles, story telling and the Family Chorus.

To reserve a space on the chorus you just needed to send an email – so I did this straight away and then happily turned up at 10am on the Sunday morning ready to sing! There were about 500 people of all ages, in the chorus. We sang a selection of nautical themed folk songs, finishing with the beautiful Skye Boat Song. You can have a listen here if you want!

I'm hoping that they will have another next year – hopefully I can convince some friends to come along with me for a great day singing in the Proms!
